Legacy L8550 3/8-Inch x 50 Manual Rewind Air Hose Reel Review

Not a bad hose reel at all for the price. Made very well and it's priced much better than comparable reels. Mounting is no problem if your mounting it on a cement wall. If you need to mount it on a stud wall you will have to fasten a 2x4 horizontally to the wall first and then mount the reel to that. The holes are only 12" on center. A nice 3 foot lead hose is also included to connect to an air compressor or a regulator. I run two air hoses in my garage, I was so happy with the first i purchased another.

This is the third one of these I've purchased, and due to one simple change, it's the best of the lot.

Yes, you DO need to dig a hole in the ground and securely set this thing in place -- after all, it's going be holding 20, 30, or 40 pounds or more of hose and you need it to be stable.

Other models I've owned have featured a horizontal input connection, which has put a strain in the supply hose (the one coming from your spigot or other water source. Typically, these hose stands are backed up against a wall, and you end up having to permanently bend your supply hose to accommodate the horizontal input and squeeze it in place. This eventually leads to failure, and puts undue sideways pressure on the input in the back of the stand.

THIS model has a 90-degree input connection, and points DOWNWARD -- utterly brilliant! Your supply hose lays on the ground, and easily and naturally turns upwards to connect to the back of the hose stand. No awkwardly-bent connections, no strain, etc. What a great idea!

This product appears to be all steel and brass, and gives the impression that it'll last a long, long time.

Worth every penny of the asking price, I recommend this stand without reservation!

Claber AquaPass Garden Hose Cassette #8974 Review

Good materials:

Poor assembly: (it flew into five pieces on first attempt to unreel and, even being better than average at mechanical skills, it took ten minutes of creative frustration to figure out how they went back together and tighten down the friction-fit pieces the way they should have been tightened at the factory (same for the end fittings). I'm still unsure of whether the slip washers are in the right position, but it seems to be holding together.

Lousy Fit: There are four fittings (snap fittings and threaded fittings) and all are either proprietary Clabor design (or, possibly, metric) so they fit no standard English threaded garden faucet or standard English nozzles, sprinkers, couplings etc. Even their snap-fittings are non-standard and don't allow purchase of supposed equivalent snap-fittings from your big-box garden supply. Even if they would fit, it comes with no standard threaded male termination to the business end of the hose (and the female end, being non-standard, fits nothing either), so your stuck going back to Clabor for everything you use (including hooking it up to any faucet in the first place) If it's metric, it might work in Europe.
As sending this proprietary rip-off back is more effort than its worth and material quality seems good, I'll retrofit all the end pieces with standard fittings for about an added $10 and a trip to the big box, but never buy Clabor unless you are redoing your whole home, garden and garage in Clabor products, love do your own hardware retro-fitting and/or own their stock.

There should be a warning on this product.

I concur with the other reviewers...this really is junk.It leaked like CRAZY (as in water flowing all the way to my neighbor's driveway within the first 10 minutes) and no amount of tightening could stop it.You could never really use the "handy" reel-it-in feature, since the whole contraption is too flimsy to support its own weight.Then it broke one day, just from falling over while I was unreeling hose...the whole handle just broke right off.Other parts soon followed.

I tried to use it until the end of the season, but the leaking progressed to the point where I finally just put it out on the curb the night before trash day.Not surprisingly, nobody garbage-picked it...;-)

Soooooo not worth any money saved!Get a better model.

My sister bought this one for me and I should have made her get her money back.If I knew she spent this much I would have insisted!I hate plastic hose carts of any type. Plastic may not rust but it does not hold up well in heavy use.The hose that hooks to the faucet is cheap and kinks up.The wheels are pneumatic, they dont hold air sometimes and worse, the axles are way too close together which makes it unstable to roll on uneven ground.The big tray is nice, I would want that on any hose reel, but on the bottom with the reel on top.The tray is helpfull for holding sprinklers and nozzles and gardening gear.This one could be used for potting plants since it is easy to clean, the tray has lots of holes to drain water. Since the hose is under the tray you have to bend down further to crank it and it is harder to handle the hose because the reel is so enclosed by the unit.

Legacy L8305 3/8-Inch x 50 Retractable Air Hose Reel Review

I saw this type of reel used in automotive garages and used to say "one day I will get one, when I can afford it...." well, I finally find a very good quality retractable hose reel that I can afford. Do not let the plastic housing worry you, it is strong enough. I mounted mine in the rafters of my garage/workshop and it is a delight to use. It makes the workshop safer since there is no hose on the floor to trip over.
Be careful threading the center hub hose connector. Overall, a very good, practical and affordable unit. I recommend it for the typical DYIer. I am now considering one for the garden hose....

My wife and I are avid gardeners and even though we have a drip irrigation system, a hose is always needed in a yard. Yet we both hate having to coil up any type of hose. We even had a heavy duty metal hand wound hose reel with wheels. We hated it.....I had bought and was very satisfied with Legacy's compressed air hose reel in my garage. So I decided to try the water hose reel. I did have a small problem initially with the water hose reel, but the repair was taken care of by the factory, at no cost to me. Now, I have the unit back and it works as reliably as my other Legacy. I strongly recommend this product.
